Televisionary Spoils The Spoiled

I, For One, Look Forward To Meeting Our New Intersect Overlords

Although you may have seen it already…
AAArrrrggg!!! ANGST!!!

Look for some major obstacles for Chuck and Sarah’s romance this season, promised Schwartz and Fedak, now that Chuck can protect himself, thanks to his new Intersect 2.0-derived abilities. “Sarah fell in love with the guy, she didn’t fall in love with the spy,” said Schwartz.

But hey, this seems, Okay. This means something positive. Right? Like, She’s in love with the guy? Now back slowly away from the ledge…

What else? Here’s a hail of bullets for what else to expect from Season Three:

  • The Buy More gang will face their own challenges, new assistant manager (hmmm…), cutbacks, new management, and more.
  • Lester is due for a backstory-heavy episode and Jeffster isn’t going anywhere. “Those guys are invaluable comic relief” for the show. SPOILER! There’s a Fight Club episode upcoming up. And if that’s not scary enough: “You will see what Lester sleeps in,” promised Schwartz. “It involves feet.”
  • Chuck will fight Stone Cold Steve Austin but “maybe not in a fisticuffs-type action,” teased Levi. Although nunchucks might be involved in that showdown, which is set aboard an in-flight airplane.
  • The Subway integration on Chuck will be very minor and none of the characters will be working at a Subway, as many previously surmised. (Schwartz joked that the show is now called “Jared”).
Zachary Levi will direct an upcoming episode of Chuck this season, one that happens to be especially mythology-intensive. Levi said that getting to direct the series was “a lot to take on” as it’s a difficult show to direct but also the “most incredible experience.”

Apologies. I don’t have a moment to comment directly. But please feel free to comment on these tidbits.

In a day or two I hope to have a list to present of what I’d like to see – and not see – in season 3. Of course, every time I get new information like this, my wish list becomes more limited!

    Not all angst is bad.

I always expected “major obstacles” this season. JS has been very clear he will not let them get together this soon. He is still of the opinion that its clever to keep finding new ways to keep them apart and that we all love the angst. He isn’t very imaginative on that score, but then most of Hollywood isn’t either. The nature of the angst is the crux of the problem. Everyone seems to concede that they are in love, so at a certain point one would expect that they, both knowing they are in love and both knowing they want to be with each other, would be less responsive to the PLI of the week.

    • Rick Holy says:

Amen!, Brother Ernie. That’s why I’m hoping that what’s been “advertised” as other love interests won’t actually turn out to be in the sense that we’ve seen in previous seasons. But that’s just me.

One thing I’m kind of disappointed about – the Subway thing. I would have LOVED to see somebody schleping subs instead of wide screen TVs and outdoor grills! 😉

The newest promo that’s up on Youtube and Zach Levi’s site – promo #10 – is a minute long and it’s EXCELLENT!

So….. Let’s get Jan. 10th/11th here already! Peace, everybody – and “Keep on Chuckin’!”

Yeah, I think the only real problem I have with the show at this point is the idea of ongoing obstacles. I’m not sure what JS thinks the point is, but since Colonel, we have officially crossed that line where further delays for Chuck and Sarah diminish enjoyment of the show. Overall, I’m fairly optimistic, and I liked that this spoiler admits exactly what we have largely figured out for ourselves; that Sarah loves Bartowski, not Charmichael. The other spoilers all look like fun, and I truly am growing more confident about the direction of the show. As I’ve said elsewhere, some angst is endemic to the format and actually required to make the show work; but obstructions for Chuck and Sarah have no interest to me. I don’t think JS understands they are past their expiration date, but I do think he knows that time is close.

      • Ernie Davis says:

I agree. Once the point where they know their own and each others feelings is past keeping them apart doesn’t build romantic tension, the tension they seek to build comes from the uncertainty and the excitement that someone may have feelings for you like you have for them. Once that uncertainty is gone keeping them apart doesn’t build excitement or tension, it just inflicts pain.

atcdave & Ernie, you hit the nail right on the proverbial head!

  4. Gord says:

One thing I noticed in a recent interview is that
JS called Shaw and Hannah “external forces” rather than potential love interests.

All relationships encounter obstacles, and I fully expect there to be obstacles for Chuck and Sarah. The important thing is for the obstacles to make sense for how the fans would perceive what a spy couple would face.

I’m not sure if I’m making any sense with that comment, but hopefully you will understand. It’s been a long day.

The fight on the plane sounds really cool. Do you think agent Carmichael will thwart a hijacking?
Also is that the plane Hannah is on? Maybe Chuck comes to her rescue and she is brought to Buy More afterwards for Team Bartowski to protect.
