Season 4 Kickoff and 4.01 Speculation Thread

We’re just over a week away from the start of Season 4.   So far Chuck only has a 13 episode order.   Chuck finished last season with very weak ratings that would have spelled the end on any other network.   So we really need improved ratings in the first few weeks to get a back six or nine order.   The network isn’t helping any with very little advertising at this point.  I don’t believe NBC ever wants a show to fail,  but they clearly aren’t willing to invest much in a long term marginally performing show.   That puts a lot of pressure on us to recruit new viewers.

So is everyone fired up now?   We should be.   After a rough start to S3 Chuck finished on a very strong note,  with a return to the formula of fun, comedy, adventure, and romance that worked so well for most of us in the first two seasons.   I know not everyone’s experience is similar,  but of the four viewers (households) I know who stopped watching last season,  I’ve got three back on board.   The most satisfying for me came last night.   My in-laws took my wife and I out for dinner to celebrate my birthday (um, I’m kind of at that age where I’d rather not think about it!).  They used to watch Chuck but stopped after 3.01;  they did watch the whole episode but not 3.02.   The line I heard was “the show was no fun and Chuck lost his girl so we decided to watch Dancing…”   I tried once, when the season was getting better, to get them to watch again but they weren’t interested.   Well last night was an opportunity.   After dinner we came home for cake and ice cream.  They know I’m a movie/TV junkie and have a nice set-up,  so when I asked if they wanted to watch something they thought it sounded like fun.   I suggested Chuck’s two-part season finale with the promise “it got a lot better towards the end of the season.”    They were very pleased and surprised by what they saw.   My mother-in-law asked if they’d changed all the writers and my father-in-law said “that’s not even like the same show we saw in January!”   I told them about recent comments that the new season promised to be more fun and Chuck and Sarah were together for the season;  and they are now enthusiastic about the coming season.

I think many viewers can be brought back to a show that feels more like it did at the start.   Chuck seems to be a fun show again and an easy sell to almost anyone who will sit still long enough to watch a single episode.    Its all on us Chucksters!

Okay,  now I’ve told my story and rallied the troops.  The main point of this thread is to share speculation about the season premier.    We have quite a few spoilers.  We know MEB will make an appearance, but apparently none of the main cast will meet with her.   We know Chuck/Morgan and Sarah/Casey will initially be on separate missions that will intersect (get it?) at some point.   And I think we will know an Awesome baby is on the way in 4.01.   How will these things play out and what will be the effect on episodes ahead?   This is your turn to weigh in.   Of course we’ll be keeping score on how good everyone’s guesses are,  but only for bragging rights!   No wagering please.

  1. OldDarth says:

    S4 spec:

4.01 – In the interval between seasons Chuck and Morgan have been sussing out the OC sifting for clues to help them locate MamaB. In the interim Casey and Sarah are still doing work for their respective agencies and going on missions.

At the start of the season Chuck’s quest and Sarah’s latest mission ends up with them crossing paths in Russia. It is likely here that Casey and Sarah find out about the Orion Legacy.

4.02 – Suitcase works on several levels. Obvious one is the weapon in question is either in a suit case or the intel for it is. Suitcase also represents Sarah’s life before finding a home. There is likely also tie in with MamaB.

Off Chuck and Sarah go on a joint mission involving models and runways and jealousy, oh my! This is Sarah’s exposure to the dark side of being in something real and learning to deal with an issue instead of running.

4.03 – Cubic Z will continue to push the relationship and Heather will pop up to work on Sarah’s insecurities about being worthy. Engagement? Hmmm.

4.04 Coup D’etat – primarily a Casey/Devon episode with an overthrow plot mixed in for action.

4.05 The Couch Look – tough to call but this could a fashion statement look plus some discord between Chuck and Sarah thrown in. Could be the time when Chuck and Sarah start bumping heads over the MamaB issue.

Plus a Casey/Morgan episode I bet with Casey facing off against his A-Team teammates. Possibly Alex has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom/revenge. So its Casey and Morgan to the rescue!

    Should be awesome!

4.06 Aisle of Terror – a Halloween themed episode with perhaps the aisle being something BuyMore related. Yvonne’s twitter about facing off against MamaB could be the big bracelet reveal moment. In a stand off against one another MamaB only relents when she sees the bracelet. MamaB surrenders because of the bracelet but not before letting Sarah know that is the only reason she is doing so. This may be the reveal moment when Sarah makes the connection that the person she is under orders to bring is, in fact, MamaB! Reluctantly Sarah brings MamaB in leading to

4.07 The First Fight – here is where things come to a head as Chuck and Sarah come to an impasse over what has happened to MamaB. The issue becomes moot when Dalton’s first appearance will probably result in MamaB being released or, more likely, taken captive.

If it is anything along those lines, Season 4 looks like a lot of fun indeed!

“4.02 – Suitcase works on several levels. Obvious one is the weapon in question is either in a suit case or the intel for it is. Suitcase also represents Sarah’s life before finding a home.”

I’ve been thinking maybe Sarah keeps a suitcase packed “just in case” and maybe Chuck finds it tucked away in the closet or something.

      • alladinsgenie4u says:

Now that’s a hilarious suggestion and a bit sad too -because it brings Sarah’s commitment issues right out in the open.

    • alladinsgenie4u says:

@OD – All very good suppositions. I wade in with my speculations.

Chuck vs the Aniversary 4×01 – Anniversary is something related to Chuck/Sarah – most probably something romantic in nature. Totally with you on the premise that Chuck and Sarah’s paths cross in Russia when they both track down Lundgren’s character separately. Team B is back together by the end of the episode. Chuck rejoins the CIA. Sarah will come to know about the search for Mama B, but not about Orion’s Cave.

    • herder says:

In the past there has been speculation/fanwankery about Ellie taking the pregnancy test at Chuck’s place with Sarah and Chuck later finding the test in the bathroom and thinking it is Sarah’s. They could play that for laughs especially if he doesn’t talk to her about it, merely becomes overprotective, perhaps not wanting her to go on a mission with Casey (could account for her look on the plane).

My guess is that the one clip that we have seen, of Chuck rescuing Sarah and Casey occurs in the first half hour. TPTB are incredibly spoilerphobic and I don’t think that they want to tip their hand on any developments, this far they have been sucessful.

As to the aniversary in question, I think that it is when she walked into the Buy More (it’s when she fell for him after all), although it could also be the aniversary of his being downloaded the intersect.

Ellie must have some sort of idea that he is still involved with the intelligence services as presumably he is still working at the Buy More. If there weren’t a reason to be there she would be pushing him to work somewhere else.

Beyond that we have so little to go on that there is not too much else to speculate on.

      • atcdave says:

Herder, I too am thinking the Chuck/Sarah meeting is the most obvious anniversary. Of course the Intersect also could qualify, but its not quite as happy an event, and now it isn’t even Chuck’s first one!

    • joe says:

Ooohhhh! Love these speculations! The only thing missing here, it seems, is Ellie’s involvement. She’s got to have some major impact on what goes on in the early parts of S4, I’m sure.

      • OldDarth says:

Joe, can only speculate to episode 7 so that is partly why Ellie is not in the spec.

Sadly I believe she will be relegated to the pregnancy storyline for the first half of the season.

  2. JC says:

4.01- Sarah and Casey will cross paths with MEB not realizing that she’s Chuck’s mom. They’ll know her but under an alias. Quite possible Sarah and her have crossed paths before. My own wishful thinking it was during the Omaha Project. MEB lets something slip and Sarah connects the dots that she’s chasing Chuck’s mother.

4.03- Hopefully this episode leads to Sarah telling Chuck something about her past willingly. Maybe some fallout from the name reveal.

4.04- Capt Awesome saves the day again from Coup orchestrated by Goya’s wife. Bonus points if we get a beach or pool scene with Sarah and Ellie.

4.06- Since I’m sticking with my spec that Robert Englund will be a Scarecrow like villain. He’ll play on Team B’s worst fears. It’s possible that Sarah’s showdown with MEB might be her worst nightmare. That MEB voices her own fear that she’s not good enough for Chuck.

    • joe says:

Sarah’s not good enough for Chuck??? Okay, JC. Now you have to continue the speculation! Who’s going to tell MEB that she’s wrong? Will it be – Chuck? Sarah? Ellie? *Morgan*??? or will Stephen come back from the dead to set her straight? (*)

This story line could be fun!

(*) I know. Ernie wants Diane to be the tell her all about Chuck & Sarah.

      • atcdave says:

I think Stephen would agree with MEB on that, they really don’t like Chuck being in the spy world! Chuck is the only one who can set that record straight (if Ellie lets him).

      • herder says:

Maybe she has been following her kids like Papa B did through Bryce. In a confrontation Mama B could throw at Sarah that she lost faith in Chuck last year and moved on. That or the fact that Sarah has led Chuck into the dangerous life as a spy. And yeah, Chuck is going to have to be the one to set her straight.

      • joe says:

Alright, seriously, who’s going to have the most credibility with a watchful but not-present mother? Chuck *should* say something, of course, but that doesn’t mean mama will listen to him. Sarah might have more credibility with her since they’re both spies, right? And Ellie has standing because she’s been *acting* mother for Chuck – MEB can’t ignore her so easily. And really, Morgan has the position of being impartial and always having Chuck’s best interests at heart – MEB knows that.

Casey and Beckman are actually the most impartial! MEB *should* listen to them. And of course, if Stephen’s left another message from beyond – and he’s been known to do that – Mary Elizabeth very much has a duty to consider what he says with great weight! I’m hoping that he remembers he changed his mind about trusting Chuck’s handlers.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I put it to you! If it comes down to someone telling Mary Elizabeth Bartowski that Sarah is not the worst – but the best – thing that’s ever happened to Chuck, I think it’ll be someone we least suspect.

      • JC says:

If anything since MEB is a spy she knows the types of things Sarah has and will have to do because of her job. Does she want her son to go through what her and Orion did? And there’s always the fact that Sarah’s ex murdered her husband that could a damper on their relationship.

But the more I think about it, if there’s a MEB vs Sarah confrontation I could see it being a test of sorts. Will Sarah stick with her son when it gets tough, something MEB didn’t do with Orion.

      • joe says:

Ooohh! I love this JC, even if I’m writing scripts in my head again.

Yeah, even if they did it for the best of reasons, MEB and Stephen physically split up to save the family. But hasn’t Chuck (the character and the show) always been about not repeating other’s mistakes, and passing those tests?

I’m thinking specifically about Chuck telling Morgan in Lethal Weapon that he should stop testing Anna (with the Morgan nuptuals) because she may find someone else. I really expected Chuck to tell Sarah to forget about Cole and live with him. But he didn’t do that. What’s was right for Morgan wasn’t right for him.

So wouldn’t Sarah be perfectly correct to say MEB was wrong about her presence and Chuck’s safety? I think so. Even so, I can still believe that Morgan and Casey would say it better.

And I’m convinced that Ellie would tell that to MEB with the most impact. It would mean that she’s become convinced myself. High drama!

So please, Mr. Fedak! can I write that script? Please? Please pretty please???

      • JC says:

I think the key will be why MEB left. We know Orion left to protect Ellie and Chuck, but why did MEB leave? Was it because Chuck downloaded the Intersect as a child? Did she have a hand in it’s creation?

Orion did everything in his power to keep Chuck out of the CIA. Was MEB the pragmatist and realized the inevitable, that Chuck would somehow be drawn into the spy world no matter what. That’s where the “test” of Sarah comes into play, MEB wants someone who her son can depend on personally and professionally.

Eat your heart out JJ Abrams.

    • Crumby says:

I’m not sure Ellie would have all the cards to set straight MEB properly. She doesn’t know all what Sarah’s done for Chuck. Morgan may be the one than knows most because Chuck told him (that was an interesting thing in the deleted scene from Tooth) and in the same time, he can be more impartial than Chuck on the matter. Of course, Morgan has less credibility…

  3. Ernie Davis says:

I just wanna hear The Police’s “Man In A Suitcase” worked into the soundtrack. To me some of the Suburbs love was due to both “Once In A Lifetime” and “I Can See Clearly” being appropriately deployed.

  4. jason says:

I think the internet will light up with info the next two days. Lots of good specs. Two new comments:

4.5 I think is couch lock, not look, I’m guessing casey’s buddies are going to be ‘stoners’ to a certain extent, although in the chuck cast of clowns there are lots of candidates to sit around high and watch stoner movies all day long.

4.7 – the first fight is not going to be small, it is going to start the only dark part of the arc for chuck and sarah

I guess a 3rd guess is I don’t think any of the potential angst for CS b4 4×7 will amount to anything.

    • joe says:

I’ve been trying to get a handle on the “Couch Lock” vs. “Couch Look” thing, and so far, I’ve come up empty. If anybody finds anything definitive on the discrepancy, please let us know!

      • ChuckNewbie8 says:

SpoilerTV released Couch Look, Ausiello released Couch Lock. So draw your own conclusion on which is more reliable as a source 😉

Personally I’m more apt to rely on Ausiello in this case especially since his release of said title not only came later, but came with 3 guest stars reveal.

  5. Robert H says:

Well atcdave I think you are right about what will
be needed. It will be up to both the producers and
the viewers now. The producers need to be VERY STRONG right out of the gate and CONSISTENTLY STAY
THAT WAY for at least the first 7 or 8 episodes (preferably all 13) to have even a chance of saving
the series, much less get a back 6 or 9 order. It
reassures me somewhat to hear Chuck/Sarah will cross
paths in Russia and the team will be reunited by the
end of the episode. To separate them in any meaningful way would be show suicide. There is no time to recover or correct mistakes any more. They
have to be spot on right from the start, to have any
chance to get lost viewers back. If people come back
it will be at the BEGINNING, not later. They simply
can’t affored any more major errors here. Time is NOT on their side now. To date from what I’ve seen so far NBC has done little to promote the show and that is a bad sign.

The viewers also have to do their part. Congrats on
your getting at least 3 lost viewers back. Curiosity might be just enough for a lot of lost viewers to watch the show, if only to see a positive
change has taken place. If the producers do their
job well, word of mouth will take care of the rest.
What’s left of the fan base has to watch consistently and spread the word and
watch more than once within the viewing week-DVR’s,
websites, libraries, NBC’s website-whatever it takes.

Unless anybody has any better ideas (all will be welcome) I can’t of anything else that can be done
to help. NBC’s telecast of 2 primetime NFL games
last Thursday and Sunday evening, as far as I know,
did little to promote Chuck ( I didn’t see all of the games through). Maybe the network will do something this week and weekend to promote the show
but I wouldn’t count on it. As I said before I think
survival is in the hands of both the producers and the viewers now. Let’s hope for the best and good
    luck to all, thanks.

  6. Ernie Davis says:

We have our first official episode promo up on the season 4 spoilers page. Mama B is definitely a Sarah.

  7. jason says:

I liked the promo for ep 1, several ways of taking the sarah chuck conversation in terms of chuck coming clean with sarah – it appears what we get is sarah telling chuck mama b has been captured (by the cia, by the big baddie, or by someone else, who knows), I really don’t care all that much. My original thought on season 4 is the one I am sticking with, TPTB have as much fan and critic info as they could ever wish for after totally screwing up season 3’s misery arc, I am curious if they can write a popular, critically acclaimed season 4 or not. We’ll know soon enough. Last night I watched 3×13, tonight 3×14, if I calculated right, 3×19 will end my review project on sunday, and off to the races next monday.

    • atcdave says:

Popular and critically acclaimed is tough challenge. Of course Chuck has done it before; but the stakes seem higher than ever. I am convinced what happens with Chuck this season will affect television for a decade or more.

      • joe says:

Wow! Tall order, Dave. I know it’s affected the way I look at television, probably forever.

“One [fan] at a time, Chuck.”

      • atcdave says:

I know Joe, but I think we’ve seen a broken relationship/romance model at work for 25 years. If Chuck can hold or improve ratings after the dreaded act of “putting the romantic leads together” it could have a positive affect on everything from Castle to Psych to shows we haven’t even seen yet.

I’m not saying that is always the most important thing to me. But it has been a tedious fact my entire adult life that the type of shows I like are never satisfying in the romance department. Obviously I don’t watch much that is primarily billed as a “romance”; but it sure would be nice if more of the shows I liked would do the “warm fuzzies” every now and then.

    • amyabn says:

I just watched the promo (can’t see that stuff at work 😦 ) and I really like that Sarah is immediately involved with working with Chuck on finding his mom. is it Monday yet????

  8. Gord says:

VS The Anniversary will have mutliple meanings – it is the anniversary of: Chuck/Sarah, Chuck getting the intersect, the founding of team Bartowski, Morgan meeting Casey for the first time (perhaps a little Bromance).

Chuck is going to tell both Sarah and Ellie that he is on a quest to find Mama B, but leave out Orion’s lair. He is going to tell Ellie that he is going to do whatever it takes to find Mama B, and Ellie is going to agree that Chuck should do what he needs to do to find her, although Ellie doesn’t realize that means Chuck becoming a spy again.

VS the suitcase. While Chuck and Sarah are in Milan on the mission, Morgan will have his first date with Alex and Casey will tail them. We are going to hear a lot of Casey being unhappy grunts.

Cubic Z – Chuck goes to a jewelry store and gets an engagement ring for Sarah. Accidentally he ends up with the wrong ring – that has a fake diamond. Embedded in the fake diamond is top secret information that the bad guys are after. A couple of dimwitted bad guys come after Chuck and Sarah thinking they are just a regular civilian couple and as Chuck is about to propose to Sarah they pounce. Of course Sarah does her usual badass stuff, and Chuck flashes. After they have beat the crap out of these bad guys they learn that the jewelry store is actually a front for these bad guys.

Coup Detat – I agree with those who say that the coup will be perpetrated by Mrs Goya.

I envision her hitting on all the male members of Team Bartowski perhaps acting a little bit like Cougar lady in Suburbs.

Couch look – when I saw this title I couldn’t help but think of Herb Tarlic’s suits in WKRP. I still remember a line in reference to one of Herb’s sports coat’s “Somewhere there is a VW beatle is being deprived of it’s seat covers”.So I see a bad guy in a very hideous looking suit.

Aisle of Terror. This is the one the Sarah/Mama B fight is in. Is it a real fight or is Sarah having a dream? Obviously there are going to be some Nightmare on Elm Street references in this one.
Maybe Chuck will relive the “nightmare” he had in Vs the Third Dimension” only this time Sarah will Morph into Freddy Kruger.

    • atcdave says:

Geez I didn’t even think of the dream angle. The fact they let Yvonne tweet that makes me think the dream is likely. Great catch Gord!

      • Gord says:

Actually, I can’t take credit for that. Someone else had postulated the possiblity on one of the Chuck sites (can’t recall where now) and it did make me wonder.

However, I actually hope it is real, and that Mama B finally gets the drop on Sarah, thinks she’s one of the bad guys,(Sarah thinking the same thing about Mama B) is about to do her in then notices the bracelet and they have a moment where they both finally realize who exactly they are fighting.

    • herder says:

Vs the Suitcase, besides the obvious suitcase bomb, it could be that as they are travelling as a couple, one suitcase. One of them packs it, if Sarah, it’s all mission, if Chuck, it’s all romance and a fight ensues. Lou Ferrigno and Karolina Kurkova, maybe they are the evil Chuck and Sarah.

Cubic Z, sounds like something that a Buymoron would buy; Jeff, Lester or more likely Big Mike. Sarah sees it and thinks it’s for her, all her doubts flood in and are preyed upon by Heather Chandler.

Coup D’Etat; Awesome, Ellie, Chuck, Sarah and Casey are invited to Costa Gravas to celebrate the anniversary of Goya’s recovery and maybe the installation of the Awesome statue. They get caught up in a revolution, and yes Mrs Goya acts like a crazy cougar lady (and also has a history with Casey). I suspect another engagement/wedding fake out here.

Couch Look, no idea, Gord’s take makes as much sense as other speculations about Chuck being in the doghouse. Maybe one of Casey’s old team wears sports coats that make your eyes bleed (and are exceedingly flamable).

Aisle of Terror, regardless of what the plot is sounds like it will be a lot of fun. Freddy Kruger and Sarah Conner, two very frightening people are involved.

  9. Gord says:

Did anyone check out the interview with Josh Gomez and Chris Fedak at
Wow If you think S4 sounded great before you are really going to be pumped up after you read that.

Apparently in 4.02 there is a big Beckman/Morgan exchange.

  10. joe says:

From Chuck On-line, a new “Short Description” up for 4.03, Chuck vs. The Cubic Z.

A prison transfer delivers old foes the Buy More, canceling Chuck and Sarah’s romantic mission; Morgan gets a surprise from Big Mike.

    • atcdave says:

Morgan’s surprise sounds scary right off. Perhaps Chuck and Sarah’s “rough spot” we’d heard mention of earlier is just about missions interfering with their personal lives. Four days to go!

      • BdaddyDL says:

I am really starting to think the fans(pointing finger at myself) may have been a little to worried about the angst this season.

At the very least I am crossing my fingers that I overdid it.

      • atcdave says:

Yeah ideally, we made a big deal out of nothing.

      • jason says:

i’m still saying the ‘Achilles heel’ will be worry about each other’s safety – there was quite a bit of speculation about that earlier, what does everyone else think now?

      • atcdave says:

I think that’s a reasonable guess Jason. I was thinking something work/safety oriented. That’s something they can’t help and will always have to deal with until they both can retire.

      • amyabn says:

@Jason, I was thinking the achilles heel could also refer to Sarah having to wear some horrible high heels. They are a pain! Dorky, I know, but they love their double meanings.

    • ChuckNewbie8 says:

    • jason says:

all guesswork on my part – chuck and sarah are planning a personal get away which sarah thinks might result in chuck asking her a rather important ?. Instead, it is big mike who is planning to ask the ? to morgan’s mom, complete with a rather large gawdy ring, which chuck somehow ends up in possession of. sarah (and heather) figure out the ring is cubic z and misread why chuck has said ring, probably the first of several faux Cs engagement / wedding moments in season 4.

      • patty says:

That is the best guess I have heard. I really do not expect an engagement any earlier than 4.13. If we get a season 5 it will likely end in the wedding.

      • atcdave says:

I like that as a plausable scenario Jason. But my money is still on a CS wedding by 4.13 at the latest. If I were doing it I’d shoot for November sweeps, this show NEEDS more media buzz.

      • joe says:

Excellent spec, Jason. That really fits everything, and sounds like fun, too.

      • jason says:

dave – my guess on engagement / marriage is 12 hrs and 55 minutes of looking highly improbably for a variety of reasons, then somehow ‘seal’ the deal in the last 5 minutes, in some unlikely fashion, if you made me pick, I’d pick marriage (way too many clues dating back to the honeymooners episode, plus all the ausillio / kristen hints), but maybe they will shoot both, depending on the pending pickup status????

  11. ChuckNewbie8 says:

There’s a 5:31 minute chuck promo of the next 3 (at least) episodes over at I’m not going to link because well I can’t find the editable spoiler page. 🙂

But do yourself a favor and check it out. It’s amp on a video!

    • Buy More Associate says:

Actually, this promo gives me hope because, as a woman, we now know there is ONE hair color in which Strahovski doesn’t look like the most beautiful woman alive. Her redhead look isn’t nearly as drop-dead gorgeous as her brunette or her natural color.

Thank god for us normal gals! 🙂

      • alladinsgenie4u says:

With all due respect to all the ladies out there- I highly doubt if the male audience is going to focus much on Sarah’s redhead. I was mesmerized by what she was(nt) wearing in that scene.

      • ChuckNewbie8 says:

        Yay! lol. I agree!

And Alladins, girls will notice and that’s enough lol.

Oh man I noticed something I missed before…that fight with Sarah and Heather Chandler is going to beat out S2’s Cougars fight! For sure. That’s all I’ll say, I swear! 😀

      • JC says:

Sarah had hair in that scene? 😉

      • alladinsgenie4u says:

@J.C – Not seeing the hair – I blame it on our lack of situational awareness. It was compromised, the moment Sarah started changing clothes. lol.

      • JC says:

Well to be fair Olivia Munn in the Nerd Herd outfit comprised me first then add the Sarah scene and I was toast.

      • Buy More Associate says:

        Well, I DID say it was a woman’s thing…

        Really, gentlemen…

      • atcdave says:

…and she uses that term loosely!

        I don’t think its a new discovery that Sarah/Yvonne has a certain appeal…

      • thinkling says:

Didn’t look like Chuck was really noticing the hair, either.

But there really was more to the promo than that one scene, guys. And, wow, what an upgrade. It gives a lot(!) Of pieces. I can hardly wait to see them all put together.

From the b-roll footage, I am hoping that the lying dies a final death by the middle of 4.01.

        It looks all good.

    • amyabn says:

I really, really want to encourage everyone to link the preview to their FaceBook, MySpace, twitter, etc to get the word out.

  12. ChuckNewbie8 says:

And the hits keep on coming. Couple of days ago we were like starving masses now we’re gluttons of promos! haha.

There’s a new one of Chuck vs. Anniversary. Just chuck vs. Anniversary.

    P.S. squee!

    • joe says:

Can’t thank you enuf for the links to the clips, Faith. There’s been so much show that strikes exactly the tone I’ve hoping to see for S4.

MamaB looking real kick-ass, Chuck & Sarah looking very couply, Casey looking real annoyed… fantastic!

      • amyabn says:

I listened to the latest podcast over at ChuckTV (interview with Fedak) and really liked what I heard for the most part.
The part that I keyed in on was that Fedak says Chuck learns to go to Sarah and she is his sounding board. I’m hoping this truly is the case and a real relationship (based in truth and love-not the lies we’ve all been worried about) comes out of it. Fun fun fun!

      • thinkling says:

@Amy – It’s beginning to sound like somebody was listening. From everything that we’ve been seeing/hearing in the last several days, our C&S worries may have been for naught. Chuck learning to go to Sarah as his sounding is exactly what I want to see. They are, after all, better as a team. 🙂 Thanks for the good word.

      • ChuckNewbie8 says:

You’re welcome Joe. Those people over at the boards keep me up to speed so I don’t see why I can’t do the same for you guys! 🙂

@Amy, wow that’s encouraging news! I will be looking forward to that.

I had a little fun with some lines yesterday and I can totally see this going with “learning to go to Sarah”:

“Sarah: “Chuck if we’re going to be together, you’re going to have to trust me to be there for you. No matter what.”

Chuck: “I know that Sarah, it’s just with everything…the Buy More, Ellie. I just didn’t want to have to put you in a place where you would have to jeopardize your job or put yourself in danger.”

Sarah: “Chuck, when I said I loved you I meant it. That means this is it, this is real. You will always be my first choice, and I would hope I’m yours. And the next time you hold something back from me, talk to Morgan about how scary I can be.”

Eh, a little fanfic-y but I think it works lol.”

      • joe says:

I expect to see you get credits for great lines like that, Faith, right up there with Judken and LeFranc.

      • jason says:

for all the lines so far, sarah to chuck about casey – ‘I think he misses you’ – probably #1 – anyone got one better from the promo’s? – also – somehow zac still reacts like a high school sophomore whenever he is within 5 feet of a near naked Yvonne – part of the chemistry thing those two have going

      • ChuckNewbie8 says:

lol, you flatter me Joe but I’m not even up part to Frea and company’s fan-fic-ness.

@Jason, I thought Beckman’s “I changed my mind” was pretty good too.

Of course such language is bound to warm the hearts of Ducks everywhere lol.

      • amyabn says:

@CN8 I love your dialog. And I really like the line about asking Morgan how scary I can be. Too funny!

  13. jason says:

there is just so much info released of late, I don’t know how anyone can keep up, while buzzing thru the stuff, saw 3 or 4 pictures of stacy kiebler, she really looks like she is a blast, very few blonds on this show, maybe a new trend. Whatever the status of chuck vs his elongating nose, the status of chuck and sarah’s love appears to be very healthy. I have my fingers crossed that that vibrancy and chemistry shows thru to the audience, and starts to draw in new fans, going to be a challenge for sure. INteresting nbc strategy, no promo’s, now flooding the internet with what amounts to the first episode?

  14. joe says:

I just have to point you all to Jace’s wonderful review of Chuck vs. The Anniversary.

Perhaps no one here needs to get juiced to tune in come Monday. But if you want to raise your excitement level just one more notch, you could do worse than read his review. Here’s a randomly chosen paragraph:

Ultimately,”Chuck Versus the Anniversary” is a hell of a start for what promises another fantastic season of Chuck, one filled with intrigue, excitement, romance, and comedy. Not to mention Mary Elizabeth Bartowski. In the hands of Hamilton, she becomes an impressive and powerful figure in Chuck’s life, albeit one who might either be friend or foe. Suffice it to say that a scene in which Mary figures prominently will not soon be forgotten…

    Oh, my.

    • thinkling says:

Thanks for all the good info, Joe (review + promo). I am thoroughly jazzed for Monday night. From what I’ve seen Chuck has much more of a “spy” feel to it … without losing its Chuck feel … fun, fun, fun. Looks like C&S will be a committed growing couple. That is so what I want to see. They are so good together on so many levels. I missed “them” last season. The show suffered for it, but it looks like “Chuck” will get its heart back this year. (I feel like we’re shifting from hydro to nuclear) All smiles on my end. All the other fun stuff (MEB, Beckman, Buymore) is icing on the cake

Hurray for sling box. Otherwise, I’d have to wait for internet availability (SA). For most shows, that’s fine, but I really want to watch “Chuck” with everybody else. 🙂

  15. ChuckNewbie8 says:

    Sexting FTW!

Spoiler from Ausiello, video of one of the scenes from Honeymooners. You will laugh! And be heart-warmed I think 😉

  16. amyabn says:

I had a thought regarding Casey grabbing Chuck and making him flash in Castle. I would like to see a scene where Casey grabs Chuck at the apartment, fresh from the shower in a towel (sorry, I like Zac 😉 and fair is fair, right ladies?) and forces him to flash-only Chuck isn’t wearing his governor.

Sarah freaks as Chuck is in pain, and goes after Casey, doing one of her kicks to the head like in Colonel. All of this in front of Morgan, Ellie, and Devon. Sarah fusses over Chuck. Casey apologizes, knowing he deserves it. Chuck goes to get dressed, Sarah goes out to the courtyard to collect herself. She is clearly upset.

It could be one of those awesome emotional moments for Yvonne to play-anger and fear and tears and love. This wasn’t some bad guy who Sarah can beat up or worse. This was Casey, her partner, being thoughtless to the repercussions and treating Chuck like a machine again. Ellie joins her. It would be a great opportunity for Sarah to ask Ellie to help her with her own mission-to figure out how to protect Chuck from the Intersect. It would be a nice parallel of Chuck’s mission and Ellie would have a stake in the “family business.” Ellie parallels Dad in the neurology side, Chuck parallels Mom in the spy game. It tightens the whole family (cementing Sarah’s position too, with Ellie). I really want to see “lioness” Sarah, doing anything to make sure nothing ever hurts Chuck. It gives Ellie purpose and also passes the torch of protector.

    • joe says:

OMG, this is so good, Amy. If I could add a thought, this scene could be the culmination of a B-story where Ellie seems to be over-mothering Chuck (still/again). But when Ellie comes to talk to Sarah, she says something like:

I’ve had to work very hard to understand Chuck has become his own man. He can stand up for himself now and he doesn’t need us to do that for him any more.

Imagine how this could tie in to Chuck interacting with his real mother, who most definitely is a force to be reckoned with.

      • amyabn says:

I don’t know, Joe. I think Sarah still being the Lioness/protector bodes well for her future relationship with MEB, especially since we know they filmed a scene (as tweeted by Yvonne) with guns in each other’s faces. BTW, I’m guessing the bracelet will be key to keep MEB from shooting Sarah (total speculation, mind you).

The parallel then would be that Sarah won’t leave Chuck, much the way Chuck chose to go back (not leave) Sarah and everyone else he loves in Subway/Ring II. That would allow both Chuck and Sarah to see that even though they are in the same positions Stephen and Mary were, they are not doomed to make the same decisions. I think this is very, very important for their growth individually and as a couple.

      • thinkling says:

Right again, Amy. Chuck and Sarah definitely need to rewrite the Bartowski play book. This burden rests heavily with Chuck, since it is his father who has filled his life and mind with a less-than-perfect (and that’s me being kind) example to follow. Here I think Sarah will be the one to help him see that they [C/S] are not his parents and do not have to follow the same patterns. It’s interesting that for someone who can be so emotionally challenged, Sarah is so keyed into Chuck’s emotions and becomes the voice of reason when he goes emotionally blank over his family.

That’s why I love the bit that Chuck will learn to go to Sarah as his sounding board. They complement each other so well.

      • amyabn says:

@thinkling, I think your comments echo nicely with Chuck having pointed out to Sarah in DeLorean that her father’s sins were his own, not hers.

The show does a great job of using their past work (as canon I guess) and continue to build on it. I think the scenario we are describing would bring us full circle and allow C&S to move forward.

      • thinkling says:

@Amy Yeah, I hadn’t thought of that [DeLorean line], but that’s true. The thing is that they are each better at seeing clearly where the other is concerned. But that’s pretty true to life I think.

      • joe says:

Oooh! Several votes for Sarah the lioness. Okay. I can accept that.

I still sorta like the idea of Sarah & Ellie coming to terms with Chuck not being a simp, though. But like you say, your take sure works will with MamaB.

    • thinkling says:

Oh yeah, Amy. I really like that. I’m not sure how you’re going to gather the whole family around to see Chuck get out of the shower in a towel, but hey, pesky details.

There is so much that Ellie still needs to see. Lioness Sarah and her fierce love for Chuck are among them. She needs to know that Chuck is well protected and relieve herself of that burden … or shift it, as you suggest, to her area of expertise. (He needs an internal governor, no? Right now he has matching sleeves … heart on one sleeve, brain on the other.)

Second, Ellie needs to see Chuck through Sarah’s eyes. This would certainly do some of that and perhaps jump start some great Chuck dialogue between Ellie and Sarah.

    • atcdave says:

I love this scenario, well except I don’t really need to see Zach in towel! Among my hopes coming into this season are that we still get to see lioness Sarah on occasion, I love your plan for it.

  17. atcdave says:

During Football Night in America NBC is running some general “Monday TV Night” promos that include some Chuck footage. Hopefully better is to come.

    • jason says:

there is some really lousy tv being promoted on CBS, I would be so bummed if chuck was not renewed, how do some of those shows stay on the air, is NBC that far behind in popularity???

    • ChuckNewbie8 says:

Saw about 2-4 promos of Chuck last night, was stuck at a family party so I didn’t have control of the remote to move away from NBC lol but on the plus side they were promoting Chuck during the SNL episode of Betty White. That’s bound to get some viewers.

@Jason my theory is it’s CBS. LOL. People just use it for noise and well who could be bothered to change the channel from 2? That’s about the only reason I can think of why Ghost Whisperer stayed on the air as long as it did.

  18. herder says:

I know that these will sound like drinking game lines but how long (first, second or third episode or at all) until we hear the following things:

    – someone bringing up marriage ( my guess is the second episode, and many after that),

    – Casey threatening Morgan with bodily harm ( first half hour)

    – Casey threatening Chuck with bodily harm ( second episode, presumably he likes Chuck now and Morgan is a more convenient target, unless he threatens them both at the same time),

    – the General threatening to break up Sarah and Chuck as a team ( earliest third episode, save that for something she really wants),

    – the General punishing Casey by pairing him with Morgan ( second episode, she still hasn’t forgiven Casey for pushing the bearded loser on her),

    – Jeff and Lester hitting on a CIA agent ( within minutes of their first entering the Buy More),

    – Sarah and Ellie having a real talk about Chuck, my guess either in the first episode or the Costa Gravas episode,

    – Sarah getting jealous about Chuck, second episode for sure

    – Chuck getting jealous about Sarah, probably the second episode too (still not enough communication),

    – Awesome and Morgan argueing about who is more important to Chuck’s spy life, I think the first episode they are in together,

    – Jeffster singing, not in the first three,

    – Who is the first to find out about the Orion Cave after Morgan and Sarah, Awesome – one more thing he doesn’t want to know about.

    – Who will Casey blame for Alex and Morgan other than the two of them – Chuck.

    – Will the Gretas accept and understand Chuck, no he’s not one of them.

    – Will we see the Agent Carmichael fan club again, I certainly hope so, especially when Casey is around.

    – Is the Ring done for, I think not and they want revenge on Chuck.

    – Will we see a romantic interest for the General ( this one is for Ernie) yes and in as unappealing way as possible.

I prefer to look forward rather to dwell on the shortcomings of the Shaw arc at this point.

    • jason says:

me too herder – great list of ?’s – even though he is spoken for, he is a big man and a ladies man, I’ll go for big mike and the general

On a more serious note, I am not positive, in spite of all the love I have for season 4, that sarah finds out about the cave anytime soon, I noticed a distinct ‘going forward’ from chuck when he agreed to no secrets?

I don’t think sarah and ellie is important to TPTB, I don;t think that will be played nearly as well as it could be, but yea – probably 4×4

      great post – thx

      • herder says:

If the General is in Burbank and also a series regular, I can see her on a mission with Chuck and Sarah, maybe a cover date. Have her make Casey play the role, and her be the alpha male and Casey as the arm candy.

      • herder says:

Someone could say “wow, she must be loaded”.

      • jason says:

the general definitely has potential – just from the limited time in the promo video with chuck, she was great – she really has comic straight man potential – which now that morgan is so involved, the show needs more actors to bounce the jokes and antics off of, they can’t bounce everyone off of sarah

    • Joseph (can't be Joe) says:

      I’d really like to see/hear a,

From Sarah would be the best, but from Ellie or (always the vixen) Beckman would be OK.

I know when I get the three names it isn’t good.

    • JC says:

I wonder if we’ll get a bromance triangle between Chuck, Morgan and Isaiah Mustafa.

Carina?? Who doesn’t want to see her return. Her reactions to C/S plus the whole Casey, Morgan and Alex weirdness that would bring up.

      • atcdave says:

Yeah JC, I really want to see Carina back. Funny thing is, I don’t actually like her character, but she’s kind of a grenade in the mix. I really want to see her go off on the new couples.

  19. ChuckNewbie8 says:

This post is directed at Dave specifically because well, I think we’ve been the 2 most adamant and excited about maturity… With Chuck searching for his mom and Ellie being pregnant, it feels like this is a very grown-up season.
Fedak: Absolutely. This show has always been about family; a spy show about a guy who has a spy life, but always comes home to his family. This year we’re going to learn even more about the family than before.
Schwartz: It’s also Season 4. When we met Chuck, he was hiding from his own birthday. He’s come a long way in these four years. He’s not the mid-20s kid that he was when we first met him. He’s grown up as well.”

Although there’s some sort of oxymoron with that what with finding mom and grown up lol…nonetheless it’s a very nice confirmation. This Chuck is an adult Chuck with adult relationships and even then at the core it’s about relationships. Most definitely looking forward to the season. I can’t wait.

    • atcdave says:

Thanks for that Faith, very encouraging interview. I’m seriously excited for S4 to start!
Funny observation about the search for mom, add to that the cowering before big sister at the end of S3; and those would be my biggest concerns about maturity this season. But it really isn’t that big a concern. I remember on the eve of S3 expecting to not like a large part of the season; I have no such expectations this time.

    • Buy More Associate says:

Thanks for the TV Guide link. It just convinces me that the big shocker of season 4 will be the Timothy Dalton character will be Mama Bartowski’s Shaw. Papa B sent her to Dalton/Shaw to be safe because he was the superspy of his generation…

Big whoop. Poor Timothy Dalton…he gets to say lines like, “My dessert was in her dessert…”

  20. atcdave says:

Okay, real stand alone Chuck promo during the game, that’s good.

Bad news is it came with less than 5 minutes remaining in a blow out game. I missed some of the second quarter, they could have run something then; but overall a pretty weak effort for Chuck. Man I hope to see some decent ratings tomorrow!

  21. jason says:

all right – the new season is here. Wanted to thank the blog hosts for allowing this shipper’s POV to be expressed this past season. From my very narrow POV, I could not have asked for a more positive preseason promo / spoiler content than I saw. Maybe the passion that was shown on this blog contributed at least slightly to the direction the show appears to be heading in season 4. I hope EVERYONE gets what they hope for out of this season and those that follow, ‘aces’ fellow fans!

    • ChuckNewbie8 says:

“Thanksgiving…, not your average mom…, using the actress instead of the name…, comedy.”

Seriously this will be if not the best casting Chuck has ever done…it will be the best season of Chuck to date.

    • herder says:

Yay, Thanksgiving with the Bartowskis’, great news.

    • thinkling says:

“I think Thanksgiving is going to be one of the best shows we’ve ever done, or seen.” …Now that’s saying a lot!! Wonder if C/S will be engaged/married by then?

I loved her personal comments on motherhood and her empty nest. (I can relate. My family is on 3 continents right now.) It’s interesting that she is cognizant of the emotions that MEB carries but will never show … good character prep, I think.

One last Linda Hamilton comment. I love the “Oh, Chuck” in the promo. I don’t know what it means yet, but I like it.

      Can’t wait!

    • herder says:

“She comes back into Chuck’s life with an agenda…”, does this mean that Chuck finds her or that she allows herself to be found, something like what Papa B did.

This leads to the question of whether or not she is a good guy or a bad guy, and what happens if Sarah is the first to question her motives. Does Chuck side with his only surviving parent or the woman he loves.

Also the return of mom opens up possibilities for Ellie to get some meatier bits rather than the nag. How does Ellie react to the woman who left her to raise her brother and father when she was about 10 years old?

      • jason says:

I was really pleased to see how linda h was lobbying for a permanent role in the series, that probably gives some hints as to how long term her character will be good vs bad if LH has a say. For anyone who has mother in law issues out there, sarah’s potential problems should make ones own pale in comparison. CS’s children to sarah, ‘mom, I see you brought out all the heavy weapons, grandma must be coming for a visit’ – LOL

      • thinkling says:

Good one, Jason. But Sarah is a match for her. I wouldn’t be. LOL

Everything I’m hearing so far gives me hope that LH may get her wish … hope so.

      • ChuckNewbie8 says:

Sight unseen I’m ready to give her a permanent slot in Chuck. The buzz alone is enough reason.

But pretty soon the buzz will translate into magic. For sure.

  22. jason says:

my plans tonight, chuck at 7, castle at 9, will probably watch monday night football at 8, the event really has not captured my interest at all, but I suppose if I ever watchi it, I should tonight, if hawaii 5-0 was at 8, I probably would give that a shot, I’m thinking monday night nbc going to be pretty sad, chuck 2.2 million is as much a hope as a guess

    • herder says:

Jason, I think you mean 2.2 demo and 6 million viewers. TVBTN has a guess the ratings topic for Monday night, the guesses for Chuck range from a 1.6 to 2.8 demo, 2.0 to 2.4 seems most likely, 2.2 seems a good guess although my hope is 2.4 as I think what ever number it gets will likely be where it is for most of the early fall.

    • atcdave says:

Chuck will be the extent of my NBC tonight. Also have Castle and Hawaii 5-0 set to record, but I may change my mind yet on 5-0; my DVR is a two event deal, if the Monday night game is good I won’t let it change the channel. Does it make sense to schedule guy oriented programming opposite football? Never quite get the thought process there.

I’ll be most interested in ratings. I’m hoping we get over a 2.0. Especially hope we beat Event and Chase, but this week it may be tough, they’ve gotten a lot of press.

    • herder says:

On the outrun the bear theme, Parenthood did a 2.7, Outlaw did a 2.4 and the Appprentice did 1.5. All these were against repeats and should be a bit lower next week, Parenthood a touch lower as it is a returning show, Outlaw a lot lower as it moves to Friday (ratings wasteland) and it was a debut and a lot of people were checking it out, the Apprentice has to improve or it is a candidate for early cancellation.

      • atcdave says:

The thing with reality shows like Apprentice is they are so cheap to make. I think that allows for slightly lower ratings.

      • herder says:

Yes they are cheap, but so is Chuck and remember, Jay Leno got cancelled with numbers like that last year despite being inexpensive.

    • thinkling says:

It’ll be 9 my time for Chuck … 11 for Castle. I’ll watch Castle tomorrow, or I’ll wait for it to appear online somewhere. With Chuck I’ll put up with the slingbox window so I can at least see it. Still can’t wait!!

      Thank goodness for Internet magic.

    • BdaddyDL says:

I originally signed on here as WhoDAT fan, so i am ptretty sure you know what I will be doing, AFTER Chuck

      • atcdave says:

Saints are looking good so far; of they are only playing the 49ers. Maybe if Singletary was playing instead of coaching (he still looks pretty scary to me!).

      • atcdave says:

I guess I’ll have to take that back, Niners making a game of it after all!

  23. Buy More Associate says:

Chuck last year was always very dependent on what happened on Sunday night. The football ratings held up even in the blowout. That’s the good news because a lot of sets tend to be tuned on a Monday evening to what was on Sunday night. The bad news? Tough competition tonight from network shows, another football game on ESPN and at least one NBC market when the local affiliate will carry the football game instead of Chuck.

Without any real support, if Chuck did 2.5 tonight, it would be manna from heaven. Anything above 2 would have to be considered a victory, although whether it would be enough for NBC to give a back order is anyone’s guess. Anything below 2, forget a back option order.

Weirdly, I had the TV on in the office today and there was Chuck promo on Comedy Central…

  24. amyabn says:

I had a random thought to share regarding Chuck, Sarah, Ellie, and Awesome’s trip to Costa Gravas. I would love to see the guards Sarah put the beat down on at the embassy purposefully give Sarah a WIDE berth when they show up, only to have Devon explain what happened to Ellie. “You and what army? “That would be Sarah and her fists.” Classic!

    • atcdave says:

That would be funny Amy. I’d love it if it was something subtle that isn’t even commented on. Maybe Devon and Ellie notice, while Chuck and Sarah seem oblivious; maybe Devon just mutters to Ellie “after last time I think they’re still a little scared of Sarah…”

    • herder says:

I think that this is a great opportunity for either Awesome to see Chuck in action or for Ellie to see Sarah in action. I think that they need to see why these two are spies, that this is their true skills and that this is what they are best as.

    • thinkling says:

Now there’s something I so want to see for all the reasons you guys mention. It’s a long time coming. I may have false hopes, but it looks like this is a possibility, according to the latest clip of upcoming episodes. It looks like Chuck is putting down a guard in Costa Gravas garb. Then it cuts to a stunned/horrified Ellie and Devon. We may get our wish.

But the wide berth and sideways looks would be perfect. You’re right. That line from Angel of Death is one of the all time classics!

  25. jason says:

my viewing project for the evening is undercovers, I made it thru 7 minutes, am ready to ‘vomit’ did abrahms really call the ‘me too’ couple ‘stephen’ and ‘sam’, so it isn’t so JJ, fedak should demand a royalty – I’m going to try to make it thru the rest of the episode, but seriously stephen and sam – that slays me

    • atcdave says:

That’s funny Jason. I remember discussion when Undercovers was first announced; we were all convinced Abrams was deliberately trying to do the show we all wanted Chuck to be. Well now its arrived, but too late. Chuck has turned into what we knew it ought to be; and Undercovers sounds like a weak imitation.

      • jason says:

sam’s ex-boyfriend bryce et er leo was her last partner, who is in trouble and needs sarah et er sam and chuck et er stephen to save him, there is a shaw in there too although he acts quite much like casey, how did mo ryan phrase that, shenanigans?

dave exactly, I’ll take one chuck 4×1 over a whole season of abrahm’s ‘me too chuck’ – I was flabbergasted by what a ripoff it was, luckily, chuck evolved and got much better, didn’t take sam long to shed all of her clothes in a game of sexpionage with one of the baddies, chuck I mean stephen did not seem to mind too much, would seem in whatever universe one inhabits, this is one of the sticking points

      • joe says:

I knew it I knew it I knew it!

We’ve all been spoiled for regular TV watching.

I’ve been an NCIS fan, but this Tuesday I’m giving Ali Addler’s new vehicle, No Ordinary Family a look-see.

      • atcdave says:

I’ll be watching No Ordinary Family too; but I’m not quitting on NCIS thanks to the modern miracle of the two event recorder!

      • JC says:

I didn’t think it was terrible but it was missing the normal Abrams mythology behind it. I’ll give it a few more episodes before passing judgment.

      • jason says:

joe – I read a bunch of undercover’s reviews this am – well 4 or 5 of them, they only hit a 2.0 18-49 demo, which must be very disappointing, and the reviews were not very good from the critics. one critic even singled out the buymore like place, which is a catering business in the abrahms show, and how annoying that was.

I wonder how NBC is reacting? Chuck’s demo vs a strong monday nite lineup can’t be looking all that bad?

I plan on watching undercovers, but not live, maybe not till the end of the season – based on episode 1, at best I would call it chuck-lite, much like the one season show ‘eleventh hour’.

  26. jason says:

don’t know how many of you are star trek fans, my choice for sarah’s mom – jeri ryan – watching sarah trying to take those sexting photo’s reminded me of the ryan’s borg character ‘7 of 9’ trying to get in touch with her emotional side in the later voyager episodes, you would think duncan mcneil aka tom paris could make that happen?

  27. jason says:

she is 42, not impossible for her to pass as 48-50, tell me you would not want to see her tussle with linda hamilton if mamaB was being a little hard on baby ‘sam’? the likeness between yvonne and ryan is stiking, they could be sisters? Would not be past sarah’s dad to get mixed up with a younger women, would it?

    • thinkling says:

The resemblance is striking. Maybe older sister would be a better match. I’ve never seen her – had to look her up. Guess I missed that version of Star Trek. So, I’m only going by looks. And yes, I can imagine Jack Burton getting involved with a younger woman … but not a 12-yr-old … aging make-up definitely required.

I do hope we get to learn some more about Sarah’s past. For now I can’t wait to see how things shake out with Chuck’s mom and Sarah.

      • amyabn says:

I still am pulling for Peta Wilson but she is very young too.

      • thinkling says:

Ai! She’s even younger. Frankly, I wish they hadn’t used Morgan Fairchild for Mrs. Awesome. I think she would’ve been a good mom for Sarah.

      • thinkling says:

OK, remembering that I am entertainment/stunt-casting challenged compared to most of you, I would consider Annette Bening or Kim Bassinger. Annette Bening rivals Yvonne with her emotive/expressive face and can play (and has) any role you throw at her. Kim Bassinger has the looks and is also very versatile.

    • thinkling says:

You’re assuming Sarah’s mom was a spy or like Sarah. She could have been a librarian, for all we know …or brilliant scientist …or a judge …or a politician.

I’m not really thinking spy, but I don’t really know. Maybe Sarah was adopted, and there’s a real mystery surrounding her biological parents. I think that’s my favorite. Something out of nowhere.

      • joe says:

There’s one other problem – Jack. You’ve have to find a female character that would put up with him AND help mold Sarah. That’s a tough act!

      • thinkling says:

I think Sarah may have been molded more by what her parents weren’t than by what they were …or at least where Jack was concerned his negative qualities more than his positive ones. Not that she emulated them, but that she had to overcome them.

If you go with the idea that Jack was not her biological father, then you can create another compelling mystery and any parental unit imaginable for Sarah. It also creates a personal quest for her, similar to Chucks, assuming that this is news to her. I would have Chuck flash on her real name and have to begin unfolding her own real story with her. But that’s just me being different – or difficult, your choice.

  28. DaveB says:

It’s a shame that Chuck and Castle are on seperate networks, because it would be awesome for Castle to get his wish for a CIA-related case that just happens to involve Chuck and Sarah, with perhaps Summer Glau as Greta? It would give Casey a chance for some good jibes as well.

    • Ernie Davis says:

I want to see Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres as the captain and first officer on a ship that Casey and team B are on. She’ll call him Captain and sir, He’ll get to rant about his ship, Casey can try to take over. Hillarity ensues…

      • jason says:

start throwing the tomatoes, I think fillian and his type of actor would be a bad fit for chuck, the problem is once you get them, you have to use them at the expense of the cast interacting with each other. For a 5 minute stretch that is fine, for an entire episode, not so much, I think fillian is too big to just trot out, tell a joke or quip or two, and walk away.

      • Ernie Davis says:

Why must you trample on my nerd fantasies? They got Summer Glau didn’t they?

      • jason says:

i don’t know, maybe beckman’s son or incorrigible younger brother – the problem with mainstream leading men, they have no female lead to play off of other than sarah, ellie is not in that type of role since she is not a spy & is happily married, beckman not really, alex is not old enough, linda h is too old – in lots of ways, I loved how alex fit last season, but from a story telling prospect, the leading men type guest stars have gotta be about twelve to fit her, maybe jusstin bieber?

      • joe says:

Jason, if Justine Bieber shows up on Chuck I am going to personally blame YOU for putting the idea in their collective heads! Then I’m going to track you down like Casey and Slap. You. Silly!

      • atcdave says:

I think Nathan Fillian would be a blast to see on Chuck. Actors often do cameo type roles, which would be perfect to have him clash with Casey for a couple lines then go away. I’m thinking the Greta part is basically there for cameos only, from what we’ve seen so far it doesn’t look plot critical. Repo Man too, TPTB love cameos.

      • thinkling says:

Maybe Nathan Fillion would make a good Greta.

  29. Ernie Davis says:

Something struck me about the anniversary and what everyone was saying was a messed up timeline. If Chuck and Sarah were celebrating a nine month anniversary even putting the start of their relationship at the beginning of April with the airing of Other Guy, that makes their 9 month anniversary early January. Now, why can’t that be the case? It was after all freezing cold and snowing in Moscow. Not likely for September. In the courtyard at the end where Chuck surprises Ellie there are what appear to be Christmas lights decorating the courtyard. So let’s assume that we just missed Christmas and it’s early January, and Ellie just found out she’s pregnant. If the show goes real-time Ellie won’t likely be showing till the front 13 is over, but TPTB have specifically said they’ve been working out Ellie’s baby bump. I think we’re in for a few more time jumps this season. The first to when Ellie’s pregnancy is at least about half way or well under way and perhaps the second after baby Awesome arrives. What do you think?

My guess is that up through Coup d’Etat we’re close to real time, then there is a roughly 9 month time jump for Couch Lock putting us into October, and Ellie’s delivery date, and setting up the Halloween episode for October.

    • thinkling says:

Interesting, Ernie. It works better than any other theory and stills keeps the holidays in place. Of course, that means we missed CS first Thanksgiving and Christmas together.

Really though, I think it’s just that TPTB are chronologically challenged. At this point I’m just going to ignore it, and accept that Chuck squeezed an extra 3 months between April and October. Maybe that’s what made the wait for s4 so long 😉

      • Ernie Davis says:

Well think of it this way, both Chuck and Sarah missed their first Thanksgiving and Christmas together too. They were each off on missions.

I’m doing a post that touches on this, but in general when TPTB state something like this I tend to suggest we take them at their word. Think also of this. Milan Fashion Week happens in February for Spring and summer wear (looked it up on Wikipedia). My guess, tonight we see Sarah in a lot of spring and summer wear.

Or they could be that chronologically challenged.

      • jason says:

ernie, I am just happy they have made in 9 months total, that is pretty long. The timeline is not a very important part of the story to me, interesting how different things make us all react differently. If season 3 had started when season 4 did chronologically, they would have been together 9 months, that seems just as credible of a way of looking at it as any, conflicting lines, plots, etc seem to occur rather often in shows, I would rather just drop it, that come up with some elaborate contrivance to try to explain things.

      • thinkling says:

        Good research, Ernie. Thanks.

      • Ernie Davis says:

Jason, this is kind of my point. It’s not a contrivance. They said that Chuck and Sarah have been together for 9 months, and they got together around April from what we know of last season. I’m taking their word for it until there is a reason to accuse them of not being able to do simple math. I’m speculating on some of the reasons they might have picked the timeline they told us they are on, but that’s just for fun.

      • jason says:

eernie, are you thinking the 4×2 will be in jan / february, or approx 9 months and one week after ‘paris’, then by the time Halloween comes around in 4×6 or 4×7, we will skip forward 7 or 8 or 9 months, baby awesome will be born, etc? so season 4 will more or less cover 2 calendar years????? Sorry, I was thinking you were going to have us skipping around with flashbacks and stuff? Two years of CS together is better than one from my POV – if that is what you are driving at – I’m all in!

      • Ernie Davis says:

Yep, kind of what I’m thinking. Under my scenario by the time they go to Costa Gravas they’ve been together for nearly a year, so a “quickie” wedding or engagement isn’t so crazy after all. Couch Lock jumps a few months ahead since it appears from some tweets that Morgan has had some training, or I hope so if he’s handling real guns with bullets.

    • atcdave says:

Perhaps they will skip over a year or more of time this season, I guess I’m OK with that. Especially if its used to get through a pregnancy, engagement, and wedding in a single season.

Of course I’d be very happy if they really meant back to January of 2010 and they’re setting up the mother of all retcons this season!

      • thinkling says:

I’d be OK with that, too. I must admit that I like the jump in CS growth we saw in 4.01. They seem to be more solid as a couple. They’ve settled some things (guns are now fine in the Bartowski house), established some rules (no lying), gotten fancy new digs. I guess time jumps can be good, especially when you’re wanting to have a baby fast. Do they have this for real life? Women everywhere would be so glad!

  30. thinkling says:

Found this Yvonne interview. My apologies if I’m duplicating, but I thought it was pretty good. Yvonne does talk about Linda Hamilton in “future in-law” terms. Here’s the link:

    • atcdave says:

That was a really good interview. Funny to see even Yvonne admitting the triangles arc didn’t go over so well. (Previously Ryan McPartlin was the only cast member I’ve heard say that directly).

But there was plenty in the interview to generate excitement for me!

      • thinkling says:

Oh yeah!! I liked that Yvonne is enjoying them being a couple. It’s definitely time, and it’s nice that this is universally acknowledged.

Ahem! Where did this come from?
