More Music Musings!

I haven’t done a music post in a few weeks, but I’ve been inspired once again, so here goes!  I hope you can take a few minutes to see the upcoming episodes as I see them.  I often imagine the episode with the music I’d use or mentally write my own scenes with the music I’d choose.  I enjoy sharing those ideas with you, so here goes!

Chuck realized as he hung from the gondola that he needs Sarah more than he needs the Intersect.  That simple line and all of the emotional weight behind it led me to an older song by Lifehouse.  I’ve recommended their music to you before (I’d love to see Chuck sing “All That I’m Asking For” to Sarah) so the band should be somewhat familiar to you.  I chose “Easier To Be” and I think you’ll see why.  Faith helped me with the audio so I chose key phrases for you to make my point while you listen.

It felt like the world
Fell from my feet
Gave up on myself
You didn’t give up on me
Let myself go
You were still there
Like coming home
Coming up for air
Yeah Yeah

(oo ah)You make it easier to be (oo ah)
Easier to be me (oo ah)
It’s hard to believe (oo ah)
You make it easy (oo ah)
Easier to be (oo ah)
To be me(oo ah)(oo ah)

From either Sarah’s or Chuck’s perspective, they have very much found the person they want to be with the other.  Chuck realized it dangling from the gondola.  Sarah makes the statement in Chuck Vs. Phase III (from the second preview) that “I’m different without Chuck and I don’t like it.”  We have had multiple, excellent articles regarding the couple lately, so I will refrain from rehashing everything again.  Suffice it to say I hope this upcoming couple of episodes solidifies their relationship and makes them both appreciate what they give to each other-love, acceptance, support, and friendship.

The other song is a more somber tune, but it is also very much a love song and a song of commitment.  It is called “My Guardian Angel” by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

When I see your smile
Tears run down my face
I can’t replace
And now that I’m strong
I have figured out
How this world turns cold
and it breaks through my soul
And I know I’ll find
deep inside me
I can be the one

I will never let you fall(let you fall)
I’ll stand up with you forever
I’ll be there for you through it all(though it all)
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay.
Seasons are changing
And waves are crashing
And stars are falling all for us
Days grow longer and nights grow shorter
I can show you I’ll be the one

I will never let you fall (let you fall)
I’ll stand up with you forever
I’ll be there for you through it all (through it all)
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

Cuz you’re my, you’re my, my, my true love, my whole heart
Please don’t throw that away
Cuz I’m here for you
Please don’t walk away and
Please tell me you’ll stay, stay

Use me as you will
Pull my strings just for a thrill
And I know I’ll be okay
Though my skies are turning gray

I will never let you fall
I’ll stand up with you forever
I’ll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven
[to fade]

I had to leave the entire lyric in for you to read along because I find the whole song to be such a powerful statement and I think it fits for either character.  Each has shown the willingness to die for the other (literally).  Each has grown personally (seasons are passing) and as a couple.  We’ve highlighted the ownership of their home and each other when Agent Rye burst into their home, into their bedroom. Each has told the other (in Anniversary and in FOD) to come home safe to him/her.  I also think the song, along with the choices we’ve seen Chuck and Sarah make, show a clear difference in paths that one could take-when compared to the choices of Mary and Stephen Bartowski.  In Subway/Ring Part II, Stephen wanted Chuck to leave Sarah to protect her.  He clearly decided to stick with Sarah and face things together.  Sarah chose to stay also.  They have chosen each other, and are making their family with Casey, Morgan, Ellie, and Awesome.  My hope is that as they work out the dynamics between them (spy vs. lover) they can meet in the middle and appreciate what they have in each other.

Thanks again to Faith for helping out with the music!

I’ve barely begun to let this music wash over me, Amy. You know how that feels.

And the feeling is perfect. I’m always astounded how songs that I thought were for one of the lovers turn out to be for both. Signs is no longer just “Chuck’s Song” from S2. That’s where the magic lives, I think.

Easier To Be fits them both perfectly now, and had Chuck let go, this is precisely the song that both would be hearing.

Always happy to. And you know I have to thank you for turning me on to “My guardian angel”—currently on loop for me right now. Just fits.

It’s perfect actually. It’s a reassuring but loving statement that works for either. Even through the rough patches, you can just feel the love.

Thanks Amy for these songs. They really express what we see and feel about Chuck & Sarah. I appreciate your sharing your music insights and knowledge with us, especially since I have about zero.

I have feeling that after tonight, Easier to Be will be even more meaningful. Thank you 🙂

The gondola speech was somewhat anti-climactic for me. Granted in the big scheme of whose to blame he’s nowhere near where Sarah is right now with the whole “no, you’re not”—understandable it may be. IF there is blame to be handed out of course…you can always choose not to do so. But it was anti-climactic because it’s not really something that was ever a question, at least this season, for me. I already knew he was working so hard to be a spy not as opposed to being with her, or for her specifically but because of who he has become with her. I hope that makes sense.

I’m also not quite sure “easier to be” works for Sarah lol. I say that because I think in her little bubble of Agent Walker (who she was) it was easier not to care, easier when she wasn’t in love with Chuck and easier not to go manic at his safety 😀 Though that period of time lasted all of 30 minutes lol (kidding). But for Chuck, I agree…apt.

Actually I take that back…coming up for air etc. Perfectomundo.

I just think that based on the fact that she doesn’t like who she is without Chuck, he makes her “her”-if that makes sense, and hence I think the song works for her too. Each has come to the other’s proverbial rescue. And Chuck won’t give up on Sarah just because she blurted it out. 2.5 hours to go! Torture I tell ya!

    • thinkling says:

But Chuck not only makes it easier for her to be Sarah (who she is now, with him), he made it possible. So, I think it works. She’s different w/o Chuck, and she doesn’t like it. 🙂

Great minds think alike and post at the same time 😉

Speaking of music, if anyone buys theirs from amazon they have a free $3 mp3 promo code right now.( GET3MP3S ) it’s good unitl the 29th I think.

No comment about “Miss Friday” by Nico Stai? “wake, wake up you’ve got a lot to live for”, it plays through both the Sarah/Morgan scene in the bedroom and at the scene in the lab when Sarah makes her declaration of love. Those two scenes are quickly becoming two of my favorites in the series, fast forwarding through all the rest of the awesomeness to get to gold.

    • Faith says:

Bought and on loop. Played during both emotional scenes and fitting. I had to pause for a moment to consider if it was Bon Ivermectin but equally fab.

      Using Luckygirl’s code. Thanks again!

You know, Herder, that is an angle that I just never considered. I love the music on the show and it is always really good, so I usually defer to what I’d like to see. Good suggestion.
