A Million Thanks

And We Were Taken By Surprise!

Sometime yesterday (probably in the evening, guessing at about 10 or 10:30 eastern), this blog hit 1,000,000 page views. Our first post was Sept 16, 2009, so that mark came in a little over 1.5 years.

Like – wow! Ernie noticed a few weeks ago that we were getting close, and we all laid down out over-under bets on when that would happen. None of us predicted it would be so soon. We set out to write about the show because we wanted to express ourselves. That anyone would want to read was something that never crossed my mind!

And participate to the extend that you have with comments? Stunning.

We can’t thank you enough.

– All of us!

Congrats! A tip of the hat to all of you for creating consistently thoughtful, intelligent, and insightful content about Chuck.

  2. Jen says:

In the immortal words of Captain Awesome… Awesome! or to quote him from this week’s ep.. Bitchin’ Dude(s)!!!

I still have hope we will continue to discuss Chuck for 1 more season on this very site, so prepare to reach many MANY more views 🙂

    Un beso!

  3. Giovanni says:

    Congrats guys!

  4. Matthew says:

So that means we’ll hit 2 million about half-way through season 5, assuming the view-rate stays somewhat the same.

Congrats on the success of the site.

  5. Rick Holy says:

    Thank YOU!!!

Congrats! And here’s hoping we are all here at this time next year too 🙂

This would happen while I was traveling. Like Chuck we wanted to surprise you. You know, take you out to a nice dinner and give you your own key…

But here at ChuckThis we can always count on Joe, our fearless leader, so thanks Joe for this post and for, you know, starting the blog. Thanks Joe, Dave an Amy for inviting me to join; yes, believe it or not Dave WANTED me to blog here, probably to his eternal regret 😉 . Last and certainly not least thanks to all the readers for your support, your friendship, your contributions and for making us think and sharing our love for Chuck.

At one time a sparring partner sounded like a GOOD idea…

    • Faith says:

So I was thinking of a give away but this all came so fast lol. Joe said it better than we ever could, thank you all. Something, something, sum of parts. See, this is why we let Joe talk. 😉

FYI, I actually didn’t get an invite *looks with ire at Joe, Dave, Amy,* which officially makes me the redheaded stepchild. I got an email from FakeEmpire to come check out the blog months after the fact <_<. Haha, just kidding, I think Amy did email me. But the FakeEmpire thing is real, so thanks to him too!

Just a quick chime in since they got around to fixing the internet (oh, still downloading Last Details). What a great community this has been and continues to be! I am so thankful Joe asked me to be a part of it and that I’ve made such great friends. I hope that we are lucky enough to get a Season 5 and can hit that next bench mark. You, our readers, have made this possible, and for that, I’ll always be grateful!

    • joe says:

I want to thank all you guys too. I can’t believe how hard you’ve worked on this thing.

Feels like a great day, doesn’t it? Of course now that all the rumors are flyin’ out there, that’s exactly what it’s going to feel like!

    • Ernie Davis says:

I forgot to thank Faith and Thinkling for rounding out the team!! Mea culpa.

Oh, and Faith, I just showed up and wouldn’t leave. 😉

And Joe, do you remember what I said in the e-mail about the approaching one million would be the ultimate day in ChuckThis history? Two out of three wouldn’t be bad at all. 😀

This truly is a monumental occasion, both 1 million page views and now a Chuck season 5 is being confirmed all over the place.

I truly love this show and this day!

    • herder says:

Much better than silence, but this is not official, remember the internet is also the source for so many -ahem- “men’s health products” and conspiracy theories. When we get the renewal officially then I’ll pop the cork, does Chuck have an official beverage sponser?

Oh and guys, congratulations on a million page views that is quite a milestone.

      • armysfc says:

normally i would agree but TVBTN, Readers Digest, Variety and TVLine all say it. two are pretty reputable online entertainment sites. it would do them no good to put out information they were not sure was correct.

      • herder says:

Ok, it’s great news but unfortunately I just read the world is to end on May 24th weekend, so we’ll not see season 5.

      • Faith says:

Right Press Release is king. But silent cheer is appropriate :).

      • Rick Holy says:

herder – you’re wrong. EVERYBODY KNOWS that the world isn’t going to end until 2012 !! 🙂

      • Matthew says:

        @ Rick Holy

Then lets hope Chuck airs in the fall, and not in the spring!

    • Michael says:

First, Many thanks for the efforts of our hosts.

@Rick Holy, I have seen those as well.

So, how’s about a poll of what we would like to see.

Should it be ten or five years in the future, or immediately after current season?
      How many kids?
I have so many questions, like what is Morgan going to do now that he quit the spy biz. Say what?

  12. Gringo Chuck Fan says:

Hola Amigos – congrats on the BIG number of page hits….
Just for the sake of conversation: would you have any way to estimate the number of actual comments posted? Its an amazing community of thinkers, writers, and most of all Chuck fans!… thanks for being here!

    • joe says:

Why, sure, Gringo. As I type, WordPress reports that the total number of comments is 42,664, spread over 540 posts.

Now, I know that when it comes to reporting page hits, WordPress does not include the 6 authors. I really don’t know if it excludes our own comments too.

      • atcDave says:

Good thing it doesn’t include our visits. By my math, I think I’d be responsible for about 5000 hits. Geez, I need to get a life; but not for another year!

      • atcDave says:

Oh and here’s a fun question, does it include Ernie, Thinkling, and Faith’s visits from before they were authors? That’s got to be a couple thousand.

This whole million thing is starting to sound fishy to me…
We could be misreporting by several tenths of a percent. This could be statistical misrepresentation of Nielsenian proportions!

      • Faith says:

“Keep in mind we don’t count your own visits.” Now.

But yeah, before we joined as “admins” or authors it counted us.

    • Faith says:

We can search specifically how many comments anyone’s made if you’re interested. Like a top 10 list or something…

  13. jason says:

You are welcome Joe. It has been fun being part of the blog. Do you have any idea / feel for how many hits on such a site is a large number?

    • joe says:

Well, I know that the largest of sites, like Instapundit, was reported to get nearly a million hits a day. So we’re not in that range.

But as for comments, I’m hard put to think of any site that gets as many per post as we do. Well, I can think of one that used to, but let’s say the level of discourse wasn’t anywhere close to what we see here. (I think my 3rd grade class could write better 😉 Ahem. Yes.)

Of course, we only put up a few posts per week, instead of several per day, so it’s hard to gauge. And what I’m most familiar with are political blogs, where passions tend to run even higher than here.

As for fan sites, except for the ones devoted to Chuck, the ones we’re all familiar with, I’ve never been! I’d love to know the stats for a site devoted to, say TBBT, House or Burn Notice myself!

  14. JC says:

Hero’s Journey, PLI, Shaw, Jill, continuity, Hannah, Bryce, Fringe ;), retcon, mythology, spy stories. I figure those topics can start generating another million hits.

But seriously congrats ladies and gentlemen.
