Chuck Versus The Readers’ Reader’s Digest Re-Watch

The results are in and the readers have picked the re-watch.

Something interesting happened over the past few weeks. I went on an extended business trip and when I got back, our readers had picked a re-watch for us. A pretty darn good one too (though I would add a few more episodes from season 3, just for the “You were attacked by a bear!” moment if nothing else.) So here we have the results of our readers’ rewatch. After the jump. Of course.

So the plan is to watch an arc a week, starting immediately, and then we, your humble (and attractive and intelligent and insightful) authors will attempt to put them into some sort of perspective in their place in the series, or just gush about how cool they were. We may do this solo, in pairs, or even mobs. We haven’t quite figured that one out yet. Faith was holding out for a break-dance-off and Dave wanted to do it like the Sharks and the Jets from West Side Story, but the gangs came down to The Shippers versus Ernie with Joe saying he saw both our sides and loved us all equally, so that kind of died out. That and I don’t do well a capella. So leaving the specifics of our response to be ironed out (I’m still holding out for the Uno death match) here, with one massive combined tied arc, is your Reader’s Digest Re-Watch.

About Ernie Davis

I was born in 1998, the illegitimate brain child and pen name of a surly and reclusive misanthrope with a penchant for anonymity. My offline alter ego is a convicted bibliophile and causes rampant pognophobia whenever he goes out in public. He wants to be James Lileks when he grows up or Dave Barry if he doesn’t.  His hobbies are mopery, curling and watching and writing about Chuck.  Obsessively.  Really, the dude needs serious help.

Too late! Already watched the first three. Or does this mean I have to watch them again? That’s…terrible.

    • Ernie Davis says:

I know we’re asking a lot and placing a terrible burden on you, but sometimes you have to take one for the team. 😉

  2. Do you have a plain text version of the calendar?

    • Ernie Davis says:

I didn’t know we had a calendar till you pointed it out. I’ll have to defer to one of my co-authors on that one. That is if she isn’t too busy practicing her lock and pop.

      • No big deal. I didn’t want to pollute my work calendar and I don’t use an e-calendar for personal stuff.

For now, I can read from the bottom of the file and see the first one is
        SUMMARY:The Intro Arc
        DESCRIPTION:Chuck Versus the Intersect\nChuck Versus the Helicopter\nChuck
        Versus the Tango

It looks like each arc is weekly.

    • Ernie Davis says:

Yes, the general plan is one arc per week, starting now-ish. The idea was that by the time we got to the season 5 episodes they’d be out on DVD/BRD/iTunes/Amazon.

      • atcDave says:

On a barely related note; has anyone heard yet if digital downloads (iTunes, unbox) will actually be available and if they will include the Director’s Cut of the finale?

      • Ernie Davis says:

I haven’t heard anything, but if I had to guess I’d say we won’t get them for download much before the DVD release and that the director’s cut will be exclusive to the DVD/BRD.

      • atcDave says:

That’s kind of what I was expecting. I know I’ll be buying Blu-Rays; the question is if my “portable” copies will be iTunes or DVD. I expect I will require the Director’s Cut for both!

      • Faith says:

Dave, I’ve put my feelers out on the digital format/or any web format of iTunes and nothing yet. I’ll be kept posted so you guys will too.

      • atcDave says:

        Thanks Faith!

      • garnet says:

This may not help everyone, but Season 5 has been on the Canadian iTunes site since the start of the season. So if you are in Canada, you can get them now!

      • Ernie Davis says:

Apparently it’s been available in Canada since the start of the season. I blame Canada.

    • Faith says:

      Plain text as requested.

  3. atcDave says:

Dang if you’d brought up Uno Death Match in the first place I could have gone for that!

  4. cholitau says:

I miss Chuck… and getting to re-watch with all of you fine Chucksters and reliving all the great moments will be so great, almost as if our show is still on. When are we starting?

“came down to The Shippers versus Ernie with Joe saying he saw both our sides and loved us all equally”… LOL, Joe is the sweetest guy EVER!

Faith… dance off? Can we get a clip of this please?????

    • Ernie Davis says:

Good to see you over here Jen. I don’t think we nailed down a specific night for re-watches, but if you want to propose one for the twitter crowd I’m sure we could generate some interest in it.

Faith’s moves are crazy sick, but I was more intimidated by the rest of the blog in their “Shippers” jackets walking down the street snapping their fingers in unison.

    • Faith says:

I can cha cha cha with the best of them! 😀

  5. Gord says:

I’m already into the first part of S3. I watched Pink Slip and 3 words on monday night and will probably continue with a few more tonight.

By the way, since the end of S5 every Chuck episode I’ve watched just seems to be much better than it was before we knew the whole story.

I might even like Mask – OK I’m joking on that one. That, Fake Name, Zoom and Bearded bandit I will never likely watch again.
