With Tongue Firmly Implanted In Cheek

Photography by Ashley Barrett

Some interviews are more fun than others, and this interview with Yvonne is most definitely fun.

It’s short, but she talks about being in Chuck, Dexter and The Guilt Trip with Seth Rogen and Barbara Streisand.

After all the different rolls, it surprised me to find she and I are in complete agreement about something deeply important and fundamental.

Interviewer: You wore a variety of crazy outfits while playing a spy on Chuck. Which was your favorite?
Yvonne: It was always fun to try on costumes and partake in weird activities. I particularly liked the belly-dancing outfit. I’d never belly danced before, but I learned, and now that’s a skill I can add to my résumé. [Laughs.]

And I chuckle with her.

Be sure to check out the video at the end.

    Short, but nice interview!

I agree with her on both accounts; the belly-dancing outfit AND Phase 3!

Aren’t those pictures great? So hot and so sweet at the same time! Way to go, Yvonne!

I’m really glad to see her doing something upbeat and fun. I sure hope her next big project is fun, and not dark!

  3. Agreed Dave.Whilst I am,as you know, more than happy with the diversity of her current roles to showcase her talents,I would absolutely love for someone to offer her a major lead opportunity in comedy film or series.
Adam Baldwin previously lauded Yvonne’s potential in this respect.

    • atcDave says:

Talent-wise I’m pretty sure she can do whatever she wants. Unfortunately, that includes a pretty broad category called “things Dave won’t watch”. I just keep hoping that her next project is one I can get into.

      • Robert says:

I agree. Like Sarah, Yvonne “can do anything!”. But there are some things where I draw the line. That’s why I don’t watch her on Dexter. My choice, mind you.

But I’d love to watch her on TV, in an upbeat comedy! I know she can do it; the few times she did some funny scenes on “Chuck”, it was good! And it was subtle; imagine if she could let it loose!

      • atcDave says:

I agree exactly Robert. I’m actually hoping she gets killed off on Dexter this season so she’ll be free for something I would watch!

Now I’ll admit to not being up on the latest trends in fashion or photography, or their themes or how they create an image or a narrative, and for the most part I’d agree that the shoot is going for a Monroe-esque glamor vibe, but the picture in the tub, in heels with a dozen rubber-duckies just has me going What the … ?

The things actresses and models are asked to do … I know, it’s probably all about framing and a mix of color and texture and all that, and the experts could explain why a fully clothed woman in heels is in a bathtub and make it sound perfectly rational, but really?

    The interview was fun though.

    • atcDave says:

      Fashion photography/modeling is just a strange beast…

I don’t get it at all, but then it’s obviously not aimed at me!

    • joe says:

What? Ernie, are you meaning to tell me that you don’t fantasize about that kind of thing??? I mean, really! Think about it. That’s a dozen rubber ducks!

      😉

      • Ernie Davis says:

Clever Duck reference aside (heh) 😉 , I think they’re the least engaging, least attractive images of the shoot in addition to making me question the kind of thought process that comes up with that kind of idea, but as Dave said, not really aimed at me.

Let’s see, Chuck had an early audience of over 7 million and even at the end it had an audience of over 4 million. Dexter has an audience of about 2 million , and DEXTER is Yvonne’s “Breakout” ????

    • atcDave says:

I think Dexter will get her more serious critical attention, of the sort that leads to awards. The industry is weird that way, she will get more kudos for doing something dark and twisted that she ever did for something uplifting.

    • joe says:

Yeah. The fact that it’s Showtime (for which you pay extra $) counts for something. But “breakout” probably isn’t the right word.

Related: I’ve see “cult favorite” associated with Chuck nearly as much as with Firefly. Did someone declare those words to be a synonym for “small(ish) audience”?

      Or maybe for “rabid audience”?

Sheesh! Just because you like a show or actor means you’re in a cult now! I DON’T THINK SO!

  6. SarahSam says:

It is strange that she seems to be obtaining more buzz from Dexter but on the bright side it allows more people to discover the greatness of Chuck. Win, win in my book.
