And the Winner is …

Not that there was much doubt.

They quite like it here.

They quite like it here.

Chuck Versus The Honeymooners! Honeymooners jumped out to an early lead that it never lost.  And it makes sense that this one should win.  It’s the episode that restored many fans faith that the show could remain fun with Chuck and Sarah together while avoiding “The Moonlighting Curse”.  Join me after the jump for details and comments.

So Tuesday September 24th at 9PM EDT/6PM PDT we will be re-watching Chuck Versus The Honeymooners.  In addition to twitter (hashtag #Chuck to keep it simple) we’ll be live-blogging here for those without twitter.  For our foreign friends you can convert the time here, and for those who want to synchronize their watches as well as possible, go here.  Remember to convert to the 24-hour thingy and look for 21:00:00.

We’ll be reminding people throughout the week and up until re-watch time.  At some point we want to take a run at most tweets per second, so we may be setting up some synchronized tweets at pre-set points in the show.  Come here or watch twitter for details.

See you all Tuesday, September 24th at 9PM.  Spread the nerd.

I’d like to give a special thanks and shoutout to both Mel of ChuckTV.Net and Kris of for helping spreading the nerd (regarding the votes). ChuckTV and WGAC (and hopefully their followers) should be joining us for Chuckiversary and what fun that will be!

As this is an anniversary rewatch, we will certainly have more to say on the date about Chuck (in general) and the episode in particular but for now here are some interesting tidbits that you may or may not have read about Chuck vs. The Honeymooners or as I like to call it, “fun for everyone.”

– Ken Tucker of EW! review of Honeymooners:

“Fans know that Chuck doesn’t operate with the biggest budget in prime time, and so we were charmed by the mileage “Honeymooners” got out of that little stateroom barely big enough for Chuck and Sarah’s bed. The plot that made it difficult for C. and S. to give up the spy life (they believe they’ve come upon a Basque terrorist trio on the train) also allowed for some nicely choreographed close-quarters martial-arts fighting, some of it while C. and S. were handcuffed to each other.”

Sepinwall, previously of NJ and now Hitfix:

“If anything, putting nerd turned spy Chuck (Zachary Levi) and spy turned nerd-lover Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) together has actually made ‘Chuck’ better”

– Feinberg of HitFix
Mo Ryan, formerly of Tribune, now AOL/Huffpost.
– Our very own Chuckthisblog (rewatch) recap
– And finally the day of Honeymooners live viewing, rapid reactions. That’s a blast from the past right there! So much good stuff.

About Ernie Davis

I was born in 1998, the illegitimate brain child and pen name of a surly and reclusive misanthrope with a penchant for anonymity. My offline alter ego is a convicted bibliophile and causes rampant pognophobia whenever he goes out in public. He wants to be James Lileks when he grows up or Dave Barry if he doesn’t.  His hobbies are mopery, curling and watching and writing about Chuck.  Obsessively.  Really, the dude needs serious help.

Heh. The Honeymooners. The first episode of Chuck I ever saw. We had just gotten VOD on Cable during the summer before Season 4 and I couldn’t sleep. I went spelunking into the depths of crap TV. Three seasons, I thought. Okay, it survived the writer’s strike. What the heck. And I was hooked, I ordered the previous three seasons on DVD and we watched the episodes in a mad dash to beat it to the premiere of the new season. 3.19 ( Ring II ) ended mere seconds before 4.1 started,

This episode is Chuck at its peak. All the fun, silliness and action that made the show great.

Thanks for pointing us to Dave and Faith’s review from the evening Honeymooners premiered, Ernie. The comments there are fun to read too.

Looks like we all rather enjoyed that episode. 😉

I voted for Phase Three. But the last minute of Honeymooners might just be the shippers best minute of the series.

Can’t help but notice how those two smiles light up the main page.

  5. Cassidy says:

Where will the episode be playing?

    • atcDave says:

That’s where you’re on your own. (Good excuse to buy some discs!)

    • Ernie Davis says:

We leave that up to the individual. We had hoped it would be on Netflix streaming by then but it doesn’t look good. We are hoping that most viewers have access through their own purchased copies of DVD/BRD or through iTunes or Amazon Instant Video. We know this may be more problematic for some of our overseas friends, but we’re hoping everyone can find a way to get a copy.

      • atcDave says:

iTunes and Amazon do have the advantage of selling individual episodes. Obviously, we strongly encourage legal copies. We still want to support the show, and prove to the studio there might be some support for a movie!

    • Ernie Davis says:

I’d also like to say welcome, and we hope you’ll stick around and read some of our archives or join a discussion in addition to participating in the re-watch.

  6. Ken Gomber says:

Thanks for doing this. I voted for THE Pilot but this episode is awesome too. Looking forward to the rewatch
